How to download a TikTok video

1. Copy the link. In the TikTok app, tap the Share arrow on the video and choose Copy link. On the website, copy the address bar. The app gives you a short vm.tiktok.com or vt.tiktok.com link; that works just as well as the full https://www.tiktok.com/@user/video/… address.
2. Paste it above and press Go. The video card appears with the creator, caption and length.
3. Pick MP4 or MP3. MP4 prepares the video in the best quality TikTok serves. MP3 audio gives you only the sound.
4. Save the file. A Download button appears after a few seconds; your browser saves the file like any other download.

What you get

TikTok keeps several encodings of every video and hands out different ones depending on who is asking. We request the file TikTok serves to its own app, at the highest resolution and bitrate available for that video, and pass it to you as an MP4 without re-encoding. That is the cleanest version of the video that exists on TikTok's side, and the quality matches what you see in the app rather than a compressed copy of a copy.

Most TikToks are 1080×1920 vertical video at 30 frames per second; older uploads and some regions are 720p. Sizes are small: a typical 30-second clip is 3 to 8 MB, and a three-minute video rarely passes 40 MB.

Be careful with sites that promise "no watermark". TikTok controls what is baked into its files, and that changes over time. We tell you what we do, which is fetch the best source TikTok offers, and we leave the promises to TikTok.

MP3 from a TikTok

The MP3 option gives you the audio track alone: the creator's voice, the sound they picked, or both, converted to a 192 kbps MP3. It is the quickest way to keep a voiceover you recorded yourself, a snippet of a talk, or a sound you want to use in your own edit. If what you actually want is the spoken words, the Transcript tab gives you those as text with timestamps, and the Summary tab condenses a longer TikTok into a few lines.

Profile pages, hashtag pages, sound pages and search results are not videos and will be rejected. Paste the link to one specific video.

Saving on each device

iPhone and iPad. Use Safari. When the download starts, tap the arrow at the top of the screen or open the Files app and look in Downloads. To move the video into your camera roll, open it in Files, tap Share, and choose Save Video.

Android. Chrome saves to your Downloads folder and shows a notification when the file is ready. Your gallery app picks it up automatically, and any video player can open it.

Windows and Mac. Files land in your Downloads folder. If the browser plays the video in a tab instead of saving it, use the Download button on the page rather than the browser's own player controls.

When something goes wrong

• "That does not look like a supported link." Make sure you copied a link to a video, not to a profile or a sound. Short links must be complete; a link cut off mid-way will not resolve.
• "This video is unavailable" or "private." The creator made it private or friends-only, deleted it, or restricted it in the region our servers use. We can only fetch what TikTok shows to a signed-out visitor.
• The video card shows but the download fails. TikTok occasionally refuses requests for a minute or two. Wait, then press the button again; a job that already finished is reused rather than started over.
• The file has no sound. Some TikToks are muted by TikTok itself when the sound is unavailable in a region. If the video is silent in the app, it is silent in the file.
• You hit today's limit. Guests get a small daily allowance. Sign up to raise it, or see pricing for Pro.

What makes this different

There is no app to install, no browser extension, and no pop-up to close before the button works. The same page handles Instagram, X and YouTube links, so you do not need a different site for each platform. And every TikTok you paste can be turned into text: the transcript is produced by speech-to-text from the audio, since TikTok does not publish captions we can fetch, and it takes a few seconds for a clip that short.

A note on copyright

vidstill fetches public videos on your behalf and does not host copies of them. Prepared files are deleted after about an hour. Download only what you have the right to keep, and never re-upload or sell someone else's work. TikTok creators own their videos; saving one to watch offline is different from posting it as your own. Rights holders can use the DMCA page to request removal of a public video page.
