vidstill respects the rights of creators and copyright holders. This page explains what vidstill stores, what you can ask us to remove, and how to do it.

What vidstill stores

• We do not host videos. When someone downloads a video, the file is fetched from the original platform on their behalf. Files prepared on our servers are deleted automatically after about one hour and are never listed, searchable, or served to anyone else.
• We store transcripts and AI summaries. When someone requests a transcript or summary, the text is saved so the same video does not have to be processed twice, and it appears on a public page for that video (for example vidstill.com/youtube/abc123) together with the title, thumbnail and a link back to the original video.
• Public pages can be removed. If you own the rights to a video and do not want its transcript or summary published, ask us to remove the page. We do not need a court order for this.

How to request a removal

Use the form below, or email the address on the contact page with the same details. To act on a request we need:

1. The address of the vidstill page, for example https://vidstill.com/youtube/abc123. Links to the original video alone are not enough, because we need to know which page you mean.
2. Your name and email address, and the organization you represent if any.
3. A description of the work and your relationship to it (creator, rights holder, or authorized agent).
4. Two statements: that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by the rights holder, its agent, or the law; and that the information you provide is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

Requests that are missing these items will be answered with a request for the missing information rather than processed.

What happens next

• We review requests within five business days, usually much sooner.
• When we remove a page, its transcript and summaries are deleted from our storage and the address returns "not found". The removal is permanent: the same video cannot be published again on vidstill.
• We reply to the email address you gave us with the outcome.
• If we reject a request, we will say why. Common reasons are a missing page address, a request about a video the requester does not own, or a request about content we do not store (for example a downloaded file, which no longer exists after an hour).

Counter-notices

If your page was removed and you believe the request was mistaken, email us with the page address, your contact details, and a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the removal was the result of a mistake or misidentification. We forward counter-notices to the original requester.

Repeat infringers

Accounts that repeatedly publish pages for works they do not have the right to use will be closed.

Downloads and copyright

vidstill is a tool, like a browser's save function. Downloading is generally fine for personal, offline use of content you are allowed to watch, and always fine for your own videos or content released under a licence that permits it. Re-uploading, selling, or otherwise distributing someone else's video is not. Users are responsible for how they use what they download, as described in the Terms of Service.
