Twitter Video Downloader

Paste a link to a post on X (formerly Twitter) and save its video or GIF as an MP4, or the sound as an MP3. Works with x.com, twitter.com and t.co links, on any device.

How to download a video from X

  1. Copy the link. In the X app, tap the Share icon under the post and choose Copy link. On the website, use the same Share icon or copy the address bar. Links look like https://x.com/user/status/1234567890 or the short https://t.co/… form the app sometimes gives you.
  2. Paste it above and press Go. The post's video appears with the account name and length.
  3. Pick MP4 or MP3. MP4 prepares the video at the best quality the post offers. MP3 audio gives you the sound only.
  4. Save the file. A Download button appears after a few seconds; your browser saves it like any other file.

  • https://t.co/… short links copied from the app or from an email
  • Links to replies and quote posts, as long as the video is in the post you link to

Paste the link to the post that actually contains the video. If someone quoted a video post, the quote's link gives you the quote; open the original and copy that link instead. Posts that embed a YouTube link are not videos on X at all; use the YouTube downloader with the YouTube address.

Profile pages, lists, searches and Spaces are not supported.

Video quality on X

X does not serve the file you uploaded. Every video is re-encoded into a small set of sizes, and the largest is normally 720p or 1080p depending on the original and when it was posted. We fetch the largest size available for the post and pass it to you as an MP4 without re-encoding, so you get exactly what X plays at its best setting, not a further-compressed copy.

That also means the ceiling is X's, not ours. A 4K upload comes down as 1080p at most, and a video someone screen-recorded and posted at 480p stays 480p. The picker shows the size before you download.

GIFs are MP4s

When you upload a GIF to X it is converted to a short MP4 with no sound, which is why GIFs on X play so smoothly and why the "GIF" badge appears on them. Downloading one gives you that MP4. It loops in any video player, embeds in documents and chats, and is far smaller than the original GIF would have been. If you specifically need a .gif file, for example for a platform that will not accept video, run the MP4 through a GIF converter afterwards.

MP3 from a post

The MP3 option converts the video's audio to a 192 kbps MP3. It is useful for clips of speeches, interviews and podcast excerpts posted as video, or for your own recordings. If what you want is the spoken words rather than the sound, the Transcript tab transcribes the audio with speech-to-text and gives you the text with timestamps; the Summary tab condenses a longer clip into a few lines. Both work on videos up to 30 minutes long.

Saving on each device

iPhone and iPad. Use Safari. When the download starts, tap the arrow at the top of the screen or open the Files app and look in Downloads. To move the video into your camera roll, open it in Files, tap Share, and choose Save Video.

Android. Chrome saves to your Downloads folder and shows a notification when the file is ready. Your gallery app picks it up automatically.

Windows and Mac. Files land in your Downloads folder. If the browser plays the video in a tab instead of saving it, use the Download button on the page rather than the browser's player.

When something goes wrong

  • "That does not look like a supported link." Copy the link to one specific post. Profile links, search links and links to Spaces are not videos.
  • "This video is unavailable" or "private." The account is protected, the post was deleted, or X is not showing it to signed-out visitors. X also puts some media, including content flagged as sensitive, behind a login; those posts cannot be fetched.
  • The post has an image, not a video. Photo posts are not supported. The GIF badge means video; a plain image does not.
  • The download stalls. X sometimes throttles requests for a minute or two. Wait and press the button again; a job that already finished is reused rather than started again.
  • You hit today's limit. Guests get a small daily allowance. Sign up to raise it, or see pricing for Pro.

No app, no extension and no pop-ups. The same tool handles TikTok, Instagram and YouTube links, so one page covers everything you come across in a feed. Files are prepared without re-encoding, so quality is X's best and the wait is seconds. And because every video also gets a transcript, you can pull an exact quote from a clip of a speech or interview instead of retyping it.

vidstill fetches public videos on your behalf and does not host copies of them. Prepared files are deleted after about an hour. Download only what you have the right to keep, and never re-upload or sell someone else's work. Saving a clip to watch offline is different from reposting it as your own. Rights holders can use the DMCA page to request removal of a public video page.

FAQ

Is the Twitter video downloader free?
Yes. Anyone can download a few videos a day without an account. A free account raises the daily allowance, and Pro removes it.
Do twitter.com links still work now that it is X?
Yes. Links on x.com, twitter.com and the short t.co form all point to the same post, and all three are accepted. Paste whichever one you have.
Can I download a GIF from X?
Yes. X converts every GIF into a short, silent, looping MP4 when it is uploaded, so what you get is that MP4. It plays everywhere; if you need an actual .gif file, convert the MP4 with an image tool afterwards.
What quality will the video be?
The best the post offers. X re-encodes uploads into a few sizes, usually topping out at 720p or 1080p, and we pick the largest. Older or lower-quality uploads may only exist at 480p or below; we do not upscale.
Can I download videos from a protected account?
No. Protected accounts only show their posts to approved followers who are logged in. We fetch what a signed-out visitor can see, so protected posts, and media X hides behind a login, are out of reach.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in the browser. On iPhone the MP4 lands in the Files app and can be saved to Photos from there; on Android it goes to Downloads and appears in your gallery.
Is downloading videos from X legal?
Saving a public video for personal, offline viewing is generally fine, and your own posts or Creative Commons content are always fine. Re-posting someone else's video or using it commercially without permission is not. Check the copyright rules where you live.
