MP4 Downloader

Paste a link from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or X and save the video as an MP4 with the audio included. Works in the browser on any device; there is nothing to install.

How to download an MP4 from any supported site

  1. Copy the video link. On YouTube use the address bar or Share. On TikTok, Instagram and X tap Share and choose Copy link; the short link the app gives you is fine.
  2. Paste it above and press Go. We detect the platform from the link, so there is nothing to select. The card shows the title or caption and the length.
  3. Pick the MP4. YouTube offers a quality list; TikTok, Instagram and X offer MP4 best quality. Each also offers MP3 if you want audio only.
  4. Save the file. The browser downloads it like any other file.

What each platform gives you

The four platforms store and serve video differently, and that shapes what an MP4 downloader can offer.

YouTube keeps every video in several resolutions and, above 360p, stores the picture and the sound as separate streams. So you get a choice: 360p is a ready-made MP4 your browser saves directly from YouTube, and 720p, 1080p and best (up to 4K) are prepared in a few seconds by joining the two streams into one file, without re-encoding. See YouTube video downloader for the details of each quality.

TikTok serves one file per video, and it is the file the TikTok app itself plays. We fetch that: the cleanest version TikTok makes available for a public video, in whatever resolution it was uploaded, usually 720p or 1080p vertical. TikTok photo-mode posts are not videos and cannot be saved this way. See TikTok video downloader.

Instagram Reels, video posts and IGTV are served as a single MP4 at the resolution Instagram encoded, typically 720p or 1080p. Picture-only posts and Stories cannot be saved, since there is no video file behind them. See Instagram video downloader.

X posts can hold a video or a "GIF", which on X is in fact a short, silent MP4 that loops. Both download as MP4 at the best quality X has, up to 1080p. See Twitter video downloader.

On every platform the prepared file stays available for about an hour and is then deleted. We never host copies.

You can paste a link with or without https://. Short links from a phone's share sheet are resolved for you; TikTok and X short links take a second longer because we have to follow the redirect first. What does not work anywhere: profile pages, hashtag pages, playlists and search results, because none of them names a single video.

No extension, no app

Browser extensions for downloading video tend not to last. They are taken down from the Chrome Web Store, break when a platform changes its player, and often carry more permissions than the job needs. Downloader apps for phones are worse: they ask for access to storage and notifications, and the ones that stay in the app stores are usually the ones that show the most ads.

A page you paste a link into avoids all of that. It works the same on an iPhone, an Android phone, a Chromebook, a Mac and a Windows PC, it gets fixed on our side when a platform changes, and it needs no permissions beyond the ability to download a file. When you are done, there is nothing left installed.

Where the MP4 goes on each device

iPhone and iPad. Use Safari. The download arrow at the top of the screen shows progress, and the file is in the Files app under Downloads. To get a TikTok or Reel into your camera roll, open it in Files and use Share → Save Video.

Android. Chrome saves to Downloads and notifies you when it is done. Gallery apps pick up the file automatically.

Windows and Mac. Downloads folder. If a browser plays the MP4 in a tab instead of saving it, use the Download button on the page rather than the browser's player controls.

Common problems, by platform

  • YouTube: "YouTube is rate-limiting us." A temporary throttle; wait a minute. Age-restricted, private and live videos cannot be fetched.
  • TikTok: the link is rejected. Make sure it points at a video, not a profile or a sound. Videos from private accounts and photo posts cannot be saved.
  • Instagram: "unavailable." The account is private or the post needs a login. Stories and Highlights are not supported.
  • X: "unavailable." The account is protected, the post was deleted, or the video is embedded from a different site rather than uploaded to X.
  • Any platform: daily limit reached. Guests get three downloads a day, free accounts ten, Pro has no cap. See pricing.

More than the file

Every video you paste also opens a Transcript tab and a Summary tab. YouTube transcripts come from captions; for TikTok, Instagram and X, and for YouTube videos without captions, we transcribe the audio, which takes up to a minute for videos under 30 minutes. Handy when you want the words of a clip rather than the clip itself.

vidstill fetches public videos on your behalf and keeps no copies; prepared files are deleted after about an hour. Download only what you are allowed to keep for personal, offline use, your own videos, or Creative Commons content. Do not re-upload or sell someone else's work, and respect each platform's terms. Rights holders can use the DMCA page to request removal of a public video page.

FAQ

Which sites does the MP4 downloader support?
YouTube (including Shorts and youtu.be links), TikTok (including vm.tiktok.com and vt.tiktok.com links), Instagram Reels, video posts and IGTV, and X, formerly Twitter, including t.co links. Only public videos work on every platform.
Do I get to choose the quality?
On YouTube, yes: 360p instant, or 720p, 1080p and up to 4K. TikTok, Instagram and X serve one best-quality version, so you get that as a single MP4. Every option includes the sound.
Are TikTok downloads watermark-free?
We fetch the version TikTok serves its own app, which is the cleanest file available for a public video. We cannot promise there is no watermark, because that depends on what TikTok provides for that particular video.
Why does it say the Instagram or X video is unavailable?
The account is private, the post requires a login to view, or it has been deleted. We can only fetch what the platform shows to a visitor who is not signed in.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in the browser. On iPhone use Safari; the MP4 saves to the Files app under Downloads, and you can share it to Photos from there. On Android, Chrome saves it to Downloads.
Do I need a browser extension or an app?
No. Paste the link on this page and download. Extensions for video downloading are regularly removed from browser stores, and apps ask for permissions a website does not need.
Is it legal to download videos as MP4?
Saving a copy for personal, offline use of content you are allowed to watch is generally fine, and your own or Creative Commons content is always fine. Re-uploading or selling other people's videos is not. Check the copyright rules where you live and the platform's terms.
